My Story

“When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves.”

Viktor Frankle; Man's search for meaning

In 2006, in just my second season of professional rugby, I received a diagnosis that no athlete wants to hear. A herniated disc in my lower back had stopped me from training and playing and it finally took me to a neurosurgeon. He confirmed my worst fear. I needed surgery and my career was over. I was 25, in the prime of my physical years and now what I had worked for, since I had left school, was going to be taken away from me.

I was devastated.

I had tried conventional approaches to help my back but nothing would give me relief.

The previous 2 years I had played rugby in Australia and while I was there I had heard about an alternate manual therapy called Bowen Therapy. It would change the course of my life.

Bowen Therapy was so effective in treating my back that I returned to training and playing and it allowed me to play for another 5 years at an elite level.

I was so taken by Bowen Therapy that I started to study it while I was still playing rugby, partly because I needed to understand the mechanics of something that had such a profound impact on life.

I qualified as a Bowen Therapist with the Australian Bowen Therapeutic Academy in 2007. I retired from professional rugby in 2010, coached for 2 years and finally fulfilled my purpose in life, opening a full time manual therapy clinic in 2013 helping people with their health and wellness concerns.

I am a Bowtech Instructor and Therapist and have served as president of The Bowen Association of South Africa from 2015 to 2017. I am a natural therapy clinician, writer, educator and social commentator. Most importantly I am a husband and dad.
